MMA Files picks 6 winners from each UFC event with ‘Six of the Best: Betting Tips’. The upcoming event is UFC Fight Night 88: Almeida vs Garbrandt which takes place on Monday (Australian time).
Thomas Almeida ($1.53) vs Cody Garbrandt ($2.62)
This is a sensational match-up. Both competitors are finishers and are near the top of the bantamweight division. It’s hard to pick against Garbrandt in any fight. Almeida is a different prospect. He is so explosive and can get the win from anywhere. I think Garbrandt will have to stop Almeida to win the fight. It will be a race to the KO. In a very close fight, I think Almeida takes advantage of his opportunities and gets the win.
Winner – Thomas Almeida
Renan Barao ($1.57) vs Jeremy Stephens ($2.50)
Stephens is one of the toughest fighters around. He is very difficult to put away and has heavy hands. He can come up with critical strikes that can turn a fight in his favour. Barao has been on the wrong end of beatings from TJ Dillashaw and this has made him look vulnerable to creative strikers. Barao is moving up the featherweight division so he should feel more comfortable with his weight. To get the job done in this fight he will have to utilise his grappling and submit Stephens. I think he might just do that.
Winner – Renan Barao
Tarec Saffiedine ($2.00) vs Rick Story ($1.80)
Rick Story has won two straight fights for the first time since 2011 and hasn’t fought since October 2014 when he beat Gunnar Nelson. Story has good hands and uses a high pressure style to get the best of his opponents. Tarec Saffiedine has great kickboxing and will use his kicks to score and try to slow down Story. A very hard fight to pick but I am leaning towards Saffiedine.
Winner – Tarec Saffiedine
Jorge Masvidal ($2.00) vs Lorenz Larkin ($1.80)
Larkin has great kicks that put his opponents in trouble. In his last fight against Albert Tumenov he lost but caused significant damage to Tumenov. Masvidal has good hands which are similar to Tumenov and will be head-hunting against Larkin. The kicks of Larkin against the punches of Masvidal. I think Masvidal might be able to score more and get his hand raised.
Winner – Jorge Masvidal
Joshua Burkman ($3.25) vs Paul Felder ($1.36)
Burkman is really tough and Felder will be testing this toughness with his Muay Thai attack. Burkman has good hands and his wrestling may be the difference in this fight. Felder has a decent ground game as shown in his fight against Daron Cruickshank. In a hard fight to split I think Burkman gets it done.
Winner – Joshua Burkman
Sara McMann ($1.62) vs Jessica Eye ($2.30)
This should be a war and I expect McMann to use her wrestling but will have to compete with Eye on the feet. Eye is getting better on the ground and competed well in her last loss to Julianna Pena. McMann has lost three of her last four and I don’t see things getting any easier here.
Winner – Jessica Eye
